This 420SL has just undergone a huge amount of work here in our workshop.
It came to us having had a second hand engine fitted by The SL Shop, an engine that turned out to have zero compression on No7 cylinder.
We sourced another engine and carried thorough integrity tests on it before renewing all gaskets, seals, timing chain, timing chain guide rails and tensioner.
Whilst the engine was out we took the opportunity to overhaul completely the front sub-frame and suspension and deal with what minor rust issues we found.
As you can imagine she now runs beautifully and is ready to be enjoyed.
She does have 172,000m on the clock and so naturally she could benefit from further improvements cosmetically but there is no urgency and these can all be done in due course and as budget allows.
The big worry with these cars is rust in the bulkhead that allows rain water to enter he car.
Again The SL Shop had attempted to remedy this but failed. We have now finished what they started and the bulkhead is watertight once more.
We don’t believe you will find one of these in better condition at this price.
Naturally she will come with a fresh MOT.
